Before there was Adam and Eve, it was Adam and Lilith in the paradise called Eden. The story, Eden Abandoned is about Lilith and what she went through.

Lilith, made by God after Adam, in the same way as He made Adam. The difference between the two: Lilith is more daring than Adam and knows to speak her mind and demands what she wants.

It is this forthright nature that results in Adam being angry with her and then casting her out of Eden. The story is about Lilith, how she copes with being ousted, her feeling of betrayal not only by Adam but also God. It is about how she chooses not to bow down but carries on with her life and does what pleases her.

Shinie Antony has written a tale of survival of a strong willed woman, not only from nature but also from patriarchal norms. Lilith is everything that Adam fears, strong, resilient, demanding, questioning. So he resents her and then leaves her. Shinie Antony has shown how Lilith chooses herself and her own happiness over the societal norms for a woman.

Through her book, the author has critiqued the patriarchal norms that exist even today and how women are always considered secondary to men. The feelings and thoughts of Lilith resonate with women from all walks of life. It is an interesting read for everyone and the chapters, numbered in reverse from 13 to 1 will keep the interest alive.
