A wise woman once said

You are now growing up and you must know these rules,
The rules that are invisible but will always envelope you.

You will be called equal but you will never feel so,
Your equality will depend on the number of chores you do.

You will bleed every month and it will be painful,
And they will also banish you from family and friends during those days.

You may excel in academics and may have a career,
But your worth will always be gauged on the marital scale.

You may want to always be your parents’ princess,
But you can only relax when you show the world the prowess of your motherhood.

Your family and society duties will always be more than men,
But you will always be counted after the men.

I do not say this to scare you but to prepare you,
When you find yourself at a crossroads remember my words.
There will be those pulling you back,
But there will be some boosting you ahead.
Believe in your worth and fight with all your might.
Never stop standing up for yourself because you are the future.

Beautiful poem. So many of the lines resonated with me.
