I first came across the word “journal” when I was watching The Vampire Diaries. Stefan’s journals play a very important role in the series and I surely can understand why. Over the course of his hundred -something years of existence, his head must have felt so full. No question he needed journals for himself. My brain is full in just thirty-eight years.

The world around us is a chaotic place. There is so much to process, understand, feel, react to that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. A lot of times this gives rise to anxiety, confusion, and sometimes drains us emotionally too. Journaling helps us to relax by giving clarity to our thoughts, and a chance to reflect upon all that is happening around us.

The easiest way to find some clarity would have been Dumbledore’s Pensieve but since it is not available for us, we can use the next best thing, journaling. Journaling acts like a mental declutterring process. When we pen our thoughts on paper, over time we can easily see what is bothering us.

Sometimes, we are not ready to share our feelings with others. Journaling provides us a personal and safe space to explore our emotions without any judgement. This overtime can also help us with emotional healing.

If you do not wish to write too much, sometimes using different tools can also help. A journal is your safe space; you can use various arts and craft materials in your journal too. This helps in relaxing the mind and also breaks the monotony of written words. I use a lot of washi tapes, stickers and sometimes chocolate covers in my journal when I do not feel like writing.

Journaling is more than a self-care trend. It is a practice that nurtures your mental and emotional well-being. In the pages if your journal, you’ll find your life and sometimes answers to your questions.

You should definitely try it. It feels so relaxing. I use a lot of washi tapes and other decorations for my journal. It’s my way of unwinding.
