I love to eat. In my opinion, food is the basis of all things good in life. Isn’t food the foremost expression of love?
- you like someone you take them out on a date, preferably at a good restaurant;
- you are throwing a party or hosting a reception or there is a wedding in your family, you find the best caterers you can afford;
- you cook your life partner’s favourite dishes to celebrate your anniversary or birthday;
- you make your child’s favourite food to celebrate their successes at school or college
- you save the last piece of sweets for your kids
- you bake or order cakes for important milestones/ anniversaries
- and doesn’t a parent always make sure that their child has had their fill before sitting down to eat themselves?

You may say that food is just a means to provide nutrition to our body and meant for survival and that’s true; but it is also true that food has, for generations, been a force that connects a family. We remember the feasts, the picnics and the restaurant outings we took as a family. We reminisce them fondly (sometimes angrily too) after years.
Sometimes, a slice of pizza reminds us of the carefree happy days we had spent with our friends. The laughter and gossip sessions over shared pizza or chips or burgers; the passing of a single popcorn tub during a movie in multiplex because let’s face it, the popcorn was way too costly for a college goer living on pocket money.
A lot of our memories are riddled with good food and laughter. Food is not just a means of survival, but it is a language of love. A love that transcends genders, generations, families and friends.
So, why shouldn’t I proudly state that I love to eat?
