The existential dread. More profound than “to be or not to be,” more pressing than “what is the meaning of life?” I speak, of course, of the eternal struggle: To Eat or Not To Eat?
Here in Navi Mumbai, as the sun begins its daily flirtation with the horizon,ย this question takes on a particularly poignant flavor. Because let’s be honest, around here, deliciousness lurks around every corner. Did someone say misal pav from that little cart near the market? Or perhaps the aroma of freshly made bhaji is wafting through the air? Or the call of the delicious hot jalebis?
The “To Eat” argument is strong, isn’t it? It whispers sweet nothings of flavour explosions, of the comforting warmth of a familiar dish, of the sheer joy of a perfectly ripe mango. It reminds you of that time you tried that incredible vada pav and how it single-handedly elevated your mood for the entire afternoon. It speaks of the communal joy of sharing a meal with loved ones, the laughter and stories woven between mouthfuls.
But then, the shadowy figure of “Not To Eat” looms. It speaks of the dreaded “food coma,” the inability to engage in any productive activity beyond sighing contentedly on the nearest available surface. It whispers of waistbands that seem to mysteriously shrink overnight and the faint but persistent voice of your well-meaning (and slightly judgmental) inner monologue.
And let’s be real, on the streets of our beloved Country, the temptations are amplified. It’s not just about sustenance; it’s about experiencing the local culinary magic. Saying “no” to that extra jalebi feels like a personal affront to the very fabric of our delicious community!
So, what do we do? Do we eat or we just let it pass and don’t eat. Maybe take a sip from the faithful bottle of water that we carry with us wherever we go?
Perhaps the answer lies not in a rigid “either/or,” but in a joyful “maybe a little bit more?” Perhaps it’s about savoring each bite, appreciating the craftsmanship behind the food, and listening (most of the time) to the gentle nudges of our bodies.
So, the next time you find yourself facing this age-old question, especially with a plate of something utterly irresistible in front of you, take a moment. Inhale the aroma. Consider the source. And then, make the choice that brings you the most joy… and maybe just a tiny bit of delightful indulgence. After all, life is too short for boring food โ and definitely too short to miss out on that second helping if your heart (and stomach) truly desire it!
