This year, Diwali and Little Miss’s birthday fell on the same day. I would have preferred both being on different days but well, the calendar is not made by me. And anyway, just like past few years there was a big confusion on when is Diwali. This confusion led to husband’s office being open on the day so I was left alone to do all the preparations for Diwali and birthday.
I had my husband decorate the house for birthday the night before and I had put up the lights for Diwali earlier in the week. So I was set on that part.
Since we had to leave for our hometown the next morning and everyone was busy celebrating Diwali, we didn’t plan anything big for the day. Gifts for Little Miss were packed and cake was delivered in the afternoon.

But as evening came, Little Miss who was already having cold and cough started feeling sleepy. So I put her to bed and well, she just was not in the mood to dress up or cut her cake or partake in any Diwali celebration.
So once husband came home from office, we just did our Lakshmi Puja, lit some diyas and candles and when she woke up, we had our small, birthday celebration. It wasn’t ideal but it was perfect for us. Some gifts were not glanced even a second time but some received squeals of delight. Phew!
Little Miss has turned 9 now and looking at her little acts of naughtiness and the laugh she gives once caught fills me with contentment. We are working hard with her and God willing by her next birthday we will see the results we are hoping and praying for.
