Do you believe in ghosts? If I’m being truthful, I do. Spirits or ghosts, whatever you may call them, I believe that they exist.
Remain by Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan delves into the supernatural realm where one of the main characters is a ghost.
The story revolves around Tate, an architect, who moves to Cape Cod to design his friends summer house. He has just been discharged from a psychiatric facility and is grieving his sister.
At the inn he is staying in Cape Cod, he meets a girl, Wren with whom he forms instant connection. But soon, he realises that she is a ghost.
Since I like Nicholas Sparks‘ books I had to read this as soon as it came out. And Remain too is a great story with the perfect amount of romance, friendship, supernatural and thrills.
The story revolves around Tate and Wren’s blossoming romance where they get to know each other, fall in love but they can’t touch one another.
There is also the suspense behind Wren’s death as Tate tries to find out if her death was really an accident or murder.
“Sometimes the most mundane interactions create ripple effects downstream that we only decipher later.”
The book is really unputdownable (I’m not sure if it’s an actual word, but you understand what I want to say); the main characters are relatable. Yes, even the spirit of Wren is relatable.
In true Nicholas Sparks style, the love story tugs at the heart and M. Night Shyamalan has provided the perfect amount of supernatural effect to the story.
The pace of the novel is also good. At no point does it become slow. The slow build of romance between Tate and spirit of Wren who appears during the day and the appearance of a scary, haunted spirit of Wren at night-time will keep you hooked.
The romance and the mystery are so intricately written that it kept me reading and when I had to put down the book to finish my chores, I kept thinking about the story. Do read it during the Christmas holidays.
My rating: 4.7/5
