I will have held Little Miss's hand through every storm,
And she will have taught me
What strength really looks like.
Little Miss will have laughed
In a world that didn't always understand her
And that laugh will have been
The most honest sound
I ever heard.
There will have been hard mornings,
Doors that wouldn't open,
Words that wouldn't come,
Days that asked more than I thought I had.
And I will have given it anyway.
Because Little Miss will have looked at me
With those expressive eyes
And I will have known,
Every single time,
That I was exactly where I was meant to be.
She will have surprised them all.
Not because she tried to,
But simply because she is
Who she is.
And if you ask who she is
I will always tell you
That my Little Miss
Is extraordinary.
I will have worried.
I will have cried in parked cars
And prayed in waiting rooms
And celebrated things the world calls small,
But we know are enormous.
We will have done this together
Step by step,
Hand in hand,
Her pace,
Our way.
And when I will look back
From wherever we have arrived,
I will have known
That loving Little Miss
Was the most important thing
I ever did right.
Little Miss will have been my greatest teacher.
I will have been her safe place.
And that will have been
everything.
